Women’s Soccer hosts Elon Thursday

LEXINGTON, Va. – Coming off a 1-1 tie with Gardner-Webb this past weekend, the VMI women's soccer team looks to ride the momentum when the Keydets host Elon University Thursday afternoon.
 
Kick-off at Patchin Field is set for a 4 p.m. start and can be streamed on ESPN+.

VMI (0-4-1) earned its first result of the season given its 1-1 draw with the Bulldogs. The Keydets trailed Gardner-Webb by a 1-0 score at halftime but rallied to knot the score at 1-1 when freshman defender Jordan Davis got a foot on a corner kick from Mackenzie Hobik and slotted it in for a score as her first career goal at VMI.
 
Sophomore goalie Maren Ryberg has played all but 17 minutes this season for the Keydets in the cage and has logged 34 saves through five matches.
 
About the Phoenix (3-1-1)
Elon opened the season with wins over VCU and South Carolina State before taking a close 2-1 loss to ACC foe NC State on August 23.  The Phoenix then earned a 3-3 tie at Davidson and are coming off a 2-1 win over High Point this past Sunday.
 
Isa Murdock, Gabby Tirado and Ava Hellner lead the Phoenix with two goals apiece this season while 10 others have one goal.
 
Naomi Person has played all but 45:00 minutes in the box at goalie for Elon and owns a 1.56 goals-against average to go with 18 saves through five games.
