Women’s Soccer earns first result of 2026

LEXINGTON, Va. – Down 1-0 at the break, the VMI women's soccer team battled back in the second half to earn its first result of the season as the Keydets rallied to a 1-1 finish with visiting Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.
 
The Keydets (0-4-1) knotted the match at 1-1 when freshman defender Jordan Davis took a corner kick from sophomore Mackenzie Hobik. After the ball was kicked around briefly in the goal box, Davis got a foot on it and slotted it past Gardner-Webb keeper Abril Montiel in the 62nd minute of the match (61:21)
 
Gardner-Webb took the lead midway through the opening half when Ila Allred took a cross from Mackenzie Farr and snuck it past VMI goalie Maren Ryberg at the 24:12 mark of the first half.
 
Key Stats
*Hobik led VMI with three shot attempts on the day while Ella Peterson and Nixon Carpenter both had two. The Keydets totaled 11 shot attempts on the day
* Andrei Chavez led the Bulldogs with four shots on the day while Sarafh Birchall and Julia McBride both had three as GWU registered 18 shot attempts
* VMI keeper Maren Ryberg finished with five saves while GWU's Montiel had two.
* The Keydets had five corner kick opportunities to four for the Bulldogs
