Handful of Keydets receive Phil Steele preseason honors

Shrewsbury named Preseason All-American by third publication

LEXINGTON, Va. – National college football guru Phil Steele released his annual FCS preview this past weekend and provided a league-by-league breakdown of All-Conference teams across the country.
 
A total of five Keydets were named to the All-Southern Conference Team, including senior punter Ben Shrewsbury who was named a Preseason All-American for the third time this summer.
 
Senior punter Ben Shrewsbury was named a Preseason All-American and First Time All-Conference choice to lead the way for VMI. Leo Boehling was named to the Second Team Offense and Isaiah Grevious to the Second Team Defense. In addition, senior Bryce Burnett was tabbed a Third Team All-SoCon selection while senior Henry Berling was named to the Third Team All-Conference defense.

Ben Shrewsbury – Punter – Preseason All-American - First Team Special Teams
Shrewsbury was one of the top punters in all of FCS Football last season, punting 85 times for 4,075 yards. Against ETSU, the Jonesborough, Tennessee, native boomed a career-best 63-yard punt. Shrewsbury did more than just boom punts, pinning 22 kicks inside the 20-yard line, going 15-for-15 on extra point attempts and hitting four field goals. After his standout junior season, Shrewsbury was a semifinalist for the Augusta Sports Council FCS Punter of the Year, First Team All-Southern Conference and was named a Stats Perform FCS All-American.
 
Leo Boehling – Running Back – Second Team Offense
Boehling had a breakout year in 2025, rushing 128 times for a total of 537 yards and two touchdowns. Against The Citadel, the Richmond native rushed for a career-high 149 yards, including a 70-yard scamper. The Benedictine product hauled in 14 catches for 88 yards. A versatile player, Boehling also had a 21-yard kick return against Mercer.
 
Isaiah Grevious – Linebacker – Second Team Defense
After nine games in his sophomore season, Grevious played in all 12 games in 2025, accumulating 60.0 tackles. The Charlottesville native had 36.0 solo stops, 7.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Against Furman, Grevious had a career-best 9.0 tackles against Furman, 8.0 tackles against ETSU and had two fumble recoveries on the season.  

Bryce Burnett – Offensive Line – Third Team Offense
After playing in 12 games in his redshirt sophomore season, Burnett started all 11 games in 2025, providing consistency on the offensive line for the quarterback position. A leader on and off the field, Burnett made the Fall All-Southern Conference All-Academic Team. A native of Peachtree City, Georgia, Burnett was selected as a team captain.
 
Henry Berling – Linebacker – Third Team Defense
Berling played in all 12 games a year ago including 11 starts as an outside linebacker. He logged 50.0 tackles, including 26 solo stops for the year and a career-high 9.0 tackles at Furman late in the season. The Richmond, Virginia, native also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss on the year and finished the season with a 7.0 tackle effort in the home finale vs. Western Carolina.
