Women’s T&F off to great start at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's track and field team is off to a great start after Day One of the 2026 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility.

All-Conference Honors
Senior multi-athlete Shea Hart finished her pentathlon career with a second-place finish through the five events to earn All-Conference honors.  She placed third in three events – the 60m hurdles (8.71), 800m (2:26) and long jump (5.36m) – fifth in the high jump (1.51m), and 10th in the shot put (8.25m)
 
Excellent Finishes
*Sophomore Reagan Gilman won the 800m preliminary round with a first-place finish in 2:13.63 to advance to the finals Saturday
*Naturale Faison qualified for the finals in the 60m after placing first in the prelims in 7.56 seconds. Taliyah Headman came in seventh with a PR time of 7.72 seconds to also qualify for the finals Saturday
*Hart came in fourth in the 60m hurdles prelims with a season-best time of 8.78 to qualify for the finals. JeNiya White was close behind in seventh in 8.97 to also qualify for competition Saturday
*Jillian Sisk qualified for the finals in the mile run with a PR time of 5:06 for sixth place in the trials
*Ruth Dickersheid came in seventh in the shot put at 12.54m and senior Diamond Baker came in ninth at 12.21m
*In the 200m prelims, senior SeMore Green came in eighth in 24.94 to qualify for the finals Saturday. Faison placed 10th in 25.00 and Headman finished 11th in 25.25, a new PR
*The DMR team of Hayden Talbott, Evelyn Anderson, Olivia Hurd and Natalia Dias came in eighth place in 13:44.75

"Our women competed with great poise on day one. We scored early with Shea Hart's second-place finish in the pentathlon, then got a huge lift from Ruthie Dickersheid—nearly a three-foot personal best to take seventh in an event where everyone seemed to be throwing PRs—and we closed the night with a sixth-place finish in the DMR.
 
"Tomorrow, our momentum will come in the way that we're advancing and stacking personal bests across the sprints and middle distance. Naturale Faison won her 60 prelim (7.56) and we had key qualifiers with Taliyah Headman (7.72 PB), Shea Hart (8.78 SB), and JeNiya White in the hurdles. It was great to have SeMore Green move on in the 200. Reagan Gilman (2:13.63) and Jillian Sisk (5:06.03 PB) put us in a great position in the 800 and mile, and our DMR group set the momentum we need the same focus and edge on Day Two."
