The meet will debut new VMI Head Cross Country Coach Tony Skiles who arrived just in time for the fall season. It will also serve as the Keydets' first step toward building momentum for the upcoming Southern Conference Championship in November.

VMI enters the season with a young and determined roster, led by team captains Ben Hagerich and Colin Crenshaw. The veterans will anchor a squad bolstered by a hungry group of freshmen who just completed VMI's demanding Matriculation week and are eager to make their Division I debut.

"This meet is the first step in our progression toward the conference championship," said VMI Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Zack Scott. "Our men have embraced the challenge of balancing the rigors of VMI with the discipline required for Division I athletics, and we're excited to see how they compete against a strong field, with their new Head Coach Tony Skiles starting his first week with the Keydets."

The Spider Alumni Open men's race will include a competitive lineup of programs from across Virginia and the greater Mid-Atlantic region:

  • Christopher Newport
  • Elizabeth City State
  • George Mason
  • Hampton
  • Longwood
  • Mary Washington
