Hagerich leads VMI to first-place finish at JMU Invitational

NEW MARKET, Va. – VMI senior Ben Hagerich led the VMI men's cross country team to its first team victory of the season by placing first overall for his second individual victory of the season Friday at the JMU Invitational held at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Virginia.

The Keydets won the meet with a first-place finish of 23 points, beating out Mary Washington's 32 points for the team crown. Mount St. Mary's came in third with 77 points followed by Eastern Mennonite with 125. Randolph College placed fifth with 134 team points.

Hagerich ran an 8K time of 26:36.1 for the individual title just ahead of second-place VMI teammate Patrick Lowry, who crossed the line in second in 27:15. Freshman Nicholas Russo came in third place overall in 27:44 followed by fellow freshman Timothy Renquist in seventh place in 27:58.

Junior Colin Crenshaw also scored points for the team by placing 10th overall in 28:27. Freshman Cameron Lambert came in 15th place overall in 28:59 ahead of teammate Peter Fiorillo, who arrived in 24th place in 29:34.

This gives our team great momentum heading into our next challenge in three weeks at Panorama Farms hosted by UVA, which is a much faster course and the site of this year's NCAA Regional Championship. We're looking forward to facing a larger, deeper and more competitive field there."
