Cross Country teams head off to SoCon Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – After a successful regular season, the VMI cross country teams are prepared to compete at the 2025 Southern Conference Cross Country Championship this Saturday at the Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina.

The women's 5K is slated to begin at 10 a.m. and the men's 8K will start at 10:45 a.m.

"The Keydets have been tirelessly working toward the SoCon Cross Country Championship this Saturday. Each week, their dedication has led to growth and improvement. The men's team celebrated victory at the JMU Invitational, while the women's team showcased their strength against tough competition at the Panorama Farms Invitational.

"Senior Ben Hagerich leads the men's team with determination, while junior Jillian Sisk and sophomore Reagan Gilman inspire the women's team with their unwavering spirit. We are right where we need to be. All the athletes are poised to achieve their fastest times this season and perhaps in their entire collegiate careers."

Last Time Out: Panorama Farms Invite – October 17 – Charlottesville, Va.
Senior Ben Hagerich led the way for the men's team at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville with an 8K time of 26:05. He was trailed closely by junior Colin Crenshaw in 27:25 and freshman Timothy Renquist in 27:58.

The VMI men recently placed second at the Shenandoah Twilight and took first place at the JMU Invitational.

On the women's side, junior Jillian Sisk led the Keydets with a 6K time of 22:07 for 61st place overall and sophomore Reagan Gilman was close behind in 22:40 for 86th place.

The VMI women's team placed third in the field at both the Shenandoah Twilight and the JMU Invitational in recent competition.
