Hart leads as Women’s T&F completes SoCon Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – VMI junior multi-athlete Shea Hart led VMI on Day 2 of the 2025 Southern Conference Track and Field Championships by earning All-Conference honors in the pentathlon Tuesday at Shauna Yelton Field at Samford Track and Soccer Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Competing without the services of star senior Eleyah Armstrong, the Keydets finished in ninth place overall with 22 points over the two days of competition. Samford won the team title for a fifth straight year with 215 points while Western Carolina finished second well behind at 136.5 points.
 
Hart took the podium with a bronze medal after placing third with 4417 combined points in the heptathlon, just three points shy of her career high set earlier this season. She took first in the 800 meter in 2:25.98 – a new SoCon record for the event within the heptathlon. She placed fifth in the javelin throw at 25.61m and eighth in the long jump at 4.96m.

"We had a hard-fought SoCon Outdoor Championship, led by a dedicated group of seniors, among which 10 will commission on Thursday. While we didn't achieve the results we hoped for, we earned every outcome with grit and determination. Great Performances
*Sophomore Morgan Fraser took fourth in the high jump at 1.66 meters – a new personal-best height – as she came up just shy of All-SoCon honors.
*The 4x100 relay group of Miracle Eric, SeMore Green, Jennifer Koumondji and Naturale Faison placed fifth overall in 48.20 seconds
*Green would go on to take sixth in the 200 meter in 25.15 seconds
*The 4x400 relay team consisting of Heaven Hall, Reagan Gilman, Evelyn Anderson and Gretal Shank took seventh in 4:01
*Gilman achieved eighth place in the 800 meter in 2:12.24, a new personal record and all-time program best for the event
*Senior Julie Freitas earned an 11.45m in the triple jump for eighth place
*Diamond Baker came in ninth place in the shot put at 11.40 meters and freshman Ruth Dickersheid placed 12th in 10.59m
*Eyana Watson earned ninth place in the high jump at 1.56m
*Freshman Jeniya White finished 12th in the heptathlon with 3620 points with her best finish coming in the 800m in 2:33.44. She placed 12th in both the long jump and the javelin throw
*Diamond Baker came in 12th place at 31.93m in the discus throw
*Natalia Dias arrived in 14th place in the 1500m in 5:17
