Women’s Track off to great start at SoCon Outdoor Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The VMI women's track and field team is off to a great start to the 2025 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship with several personal records and finals qualifiers set to compete Saturday.
 
SoCon Day 1 Results – Monday, May 12
 
In an altered meet schedule due to rainy weather in the area, the Keydets were paced by heptathlete Shea Hart, who is in the running for the top finish in the multi-event after four events completed Monday. She earned first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.35 seconds – a new SoCon record for the heptathlon 100m hurdles.
 
She placed second in the 200m dash in 26.24 seconds before placing eighth in the high jump at 1.46 meters. She also competed in the shot put and logged a distance of 8.77 meters for ninth place out of 11 competitors. The heptathlon will finish Tuesday with its final three events.
 
Finals qualifiers
*SeMore Green placed eighth in the 200m dash preliminaries in 25.14 seconds as the penultimate qualifier for Tuesday's final, which will take place at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday
*Freshman Reagan Gilman was the final qualifier in the 800 meter run with a ninth-place time of 2:14.20. She will race in the final round Tuesday at 12:05 p.m.
 
Great Performances
*Hart competed in the regular 100m hurdles prelims and finished 10th overall in 14.53 seconds, just a few hundredths of a second off from qualifying for the final round Tuesday
*Freshman Jeniya White is competing well in the heptathlon alongside Hart, placing fourth in the both the 200 meter (26.73) and high jump (1.52m). She placed 10th in the shot put and 11th overall in the 100m hurdles
*Senior Gretal Shank placed 11th in the 800m prelims in 2:17, while Evelyn Anderson came in 13th in 2:21
*Heaven Hall arrived in 14th place in the 100m hurdles prelims in 15.52 seconds, a new personal record. She also ran the 400m hurdles prelims in 14th place in 1:14.25
*In the 100m dash, freshman Naturale Faison came in 11th overall in 12.45 seconds ahead of Miracle Eric's 13th-place time of 12.59 seconds. Sophomore Jennifer Koumondji also ran and placed 14th in 12.66 seconds
*Freshman Ruth Dickersheid earned 13th place in the hammer throw at 32.96 meters

The Keydets will compete in Tuesday's final rounds and Day 2 of the 2025 SoCon Outdoor Championship hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
The SoCon Championships resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. with the multis. Day two will air on ESPN+.
