VMI Completes Liberty Track and Field Meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Just two weeks away from the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, the VMI track and field teams showed continued improvement at the Darius Dixon Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The men's distance medley relay team of Ben Hagerich, Stephen Kelley, Andrew Hirneisen and Nicholas Ligday came in fourth place with a time of 10:44.95 to highlight the day for the group.

In the 1000 meter run, Hirneisen came in 22nd place in 2:37.06, and Ligday followed close behind in 24th in 2:44.07. Competing in the mile run, D. Alex Fiorillo placed 28th in 4:15.14 just ahead of Trent Whittaker's 29th place in 4:15.62.

For the field events, shot putters Herbert Brooks (21t, 13.52m) and Andrew Granger (22nd, 13.31m) led the way. Hunter Davis also showed well with a distance of 13.05 meters in 23rd place.

Pole vaulter Stephen Munson finished 15th overall for the event with a height of 4.00 meters.

"Track and Field is simple - every meet you find out on that day who is faster, who can jump higher, and or throw farther. You spend the time training and preparing just so you can believe that you have done the work and capable of doing your best to win that day. In two weeks, we will see - against our conference competition - who is faster, who can jump higher, and throw farther at our own facility."

Up Next
The Keydets host the Southern Conference Indoor Championships at the Corps Physical Training Facility in two weeks running from February 25-26 in Lexington.
