PITTSBURGH  – Senior 174 pound wrestler Matthew Brock went 4-0 on the day, winning all of his matches by decisions as the VMI Keydets traveled to the University of Pittsburgh to take part in the 2012 Pitt Duals, contested at Fitzgerald Field House.

Joining VMI were No. 10 and host Pittsburgh, Columbia, Eastern Michigan and Princeton. VMI fell to the host school 38-7, dropped a 26-10 decision against Princeton, fell 46-3 against Columbia and the Keydets were edged 25-10 against Eastern Michigan.

Joining Brock with multiple wins during the Duals were Andrew Embree, who went 2-2 as the Keydets heavyweight, and Conor Black, who likewise went 2-2 at 197 pounds.

Against the No. 10 Panthers, VMI picked up wins from Brock and Embree. The Keydets fell 37-7 to Pittsburgh, but forfeited three weight classes (125, 133, 197), giving up 18 team points in the process. In his fashion, Brock managed to grind out a 4-1 decision over P.J. Tasser while Embree snared four team points with his 8-0 major decision over Joel Yahner.

When the Keydets squared off with the Tigers of Princeton, VMI struggled in the lighter weight classes, but won three of the final four weight classes. Brock once again registered a 2-0 decision over Ryan Callahan, while Black continued the VMI run with a 6-2 victory over Dan Santaro. The Keydets' John Dommert fell by a narrow 5-4 decision against Kurt Brendel, but Embree managed another 8-0 major decision to conclude the dual.

Brock, who improved to 19-8 this season, surpassing his career-high mark of 18 victories set last season, recorded VMI's only points against Columbia. His 6-1 decision over Adam Fondale was a more decisive win against the Lion, who Brock met and beat 2-0 last weekend at the Mat Town USA Invitational.

The Keydets afternoon was rounded out with Eastern Michigan, the first time the programs have met in a dual match. Again a majority of VMI's team points came in the upper weight classes, but the Keydets picked up four points from Zeb Stewart at 141 points with his 9-0 blanking of Seth Schaner. VMI got another three points from Brock, who defeated Phillip Joseph 9-0 and another three team tallies from Black with a riveting 12-10 decision over Mike Curby.

Also at the Pitt Duals was Davidson, but the Keydets opted not to wrestle the Wildcats, who come to Lexington for VMI's next Southern Conference dual Thursday night. Action is set to begin in the Thunderdome at 7:30 p.m.

Pittsburgh went 4-0 at the Duals, while Columbia went 3-1, Princeton went 2-1, Eastern Michigan went 2-2 and Davidson went 0-3. Princeton and Columbia did not wrestle each other, as they are Ivy League opponents.
