CONWAY, S.C. - Senior Maegen Hellberg scored the game's first goal and junior Dana Gentile added two more as Coastal Carolina scored a 3-0 win over VMI in Big South Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Field.

The Chanticleers (3-10-1, 1-2 Big South) earned their first league victory by out-shooting the Keydets (4-7, 2-1 Big South) 17-2 on a breezy day that saw temperatures reach into the upper-80's.  The loss was VMI's first in conference play this season after notching a pair of shutouts last weekend at home.

Coastal Carolina jumped on top in the ninth minute, when Hellberg collected a failed VMI clear attempt and found the upper half of the goal from 25 yards out.  The Chanticleers doubled that margin in the 18th minute, when Gentile scored her fifth goal of the season.  The score came about when Sara Niles' corner kick found Samantha Teijelo, who passed to Gentile in the six-yard box for the goal.

The score remained 2-0 at halftime, as Coastal Carolina held a 9-1 advantage in shots, putting an impressive eight of the nine on goal.  Junior Angela Redmond made six saves in the period in the Keydet goal.

Gentile struck again in the second half, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season.  In the 56th minute, Anna Tupy fed Gentile, who found the back of the net from five yards out to push the advantage to 3-0.
 
The Chanticleers outshot the Keydets 8-1 in the second half, forcing VMI keeper Heidi Beemer to make four saves.  The Keydets' best shot came in the 81st minute, when senior Chrissy Beach put a header on frame, forcing Amy Haggard to make her lone save of the day.

Twenty-five players saw action for the Chanticleers in the contest, while 17 Keydets stepped onto the field in the match.

The Keydets return to action on Monday afternoon, continuing their trek through South Carolina in taking on Charleston Southern at 3 p.m.
