VMI HEAD COACH BRYAN WILLIAMS- "Tonight was our first overtime game that we've ever come out of with a tie, so there's definitely a positive that we can come away with. Also, we got another shutout by Angela and Heidi, which was great for us in that regard. Because of the play of the goalkeepers and backline, we were much more offensive than we have been in getting players forward. In the first part of the first half, we created four corner kicks that were very dangerous off of some great services by Megan Strand. We just couldn't finish on some balls that could've been scored. After that first flurry, the game moved back-and-forth, we controlled a good portion of the play, but they were very relentless in coming at us, and were very physical. They did a good job on putting their first-time balls into good attacking spaces, which gave them some opportunities and challenged us defensively. At halftime, I felt like we picked some things up and particularly in the last part of the second half we were able to control the game and get back to our game plan. We had our opportunities, we were just unable to connect. When we went into overtime, we switched some things up, going with three backs, putting another player in the midfield, and I think that we really dominated both overtime periods, but could not get in on them to get the finish. Time ran out on us and I felt that while we had the opportunity to take this game from them that they certainly hung in and challenged us all over the field. I was pleased to come away with a tie against a much-improved Delaware State team. In addition, both of our goalkeepers played exceptionally, and we got very good play from both of our outside backs, Jen Ball & Alexi Staton, who created some really good things for us coming up the field with the ball."
