Keydets head to Blacksburg to face the Hokies

LEXINGTON, Va. – Facing in-state foe Virginia Tech for the first time in 22 years, the VMI women's soccer team travels south for a quick trip to Blacksburg Sunday night.
 
Kick-off is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Sandra D. Thompson Field.

The Keydets are coming off a hard-fought 4-1 loss on the road Thursday night at the hands of George Mason, who trailed the Keydets by a goal until the 71st minute when the Patriots scored four unanswered goals.
 
VMI scored the first goal of the game when freshman Jaleesa Eichel shouldered a deep free kick from goalie Maren Ryberg into the lower right corner of the net midway through the opening half. The goal was the first of her Eichel's career while Ryberg picked up her first career assist.
 
About the Hokies (1-0)
Virginia Tech is coming from a come-from-behind win over Old Dominion Thursday night after trailing the Monarchs early in the first half. The Hokies tied it up 10 minutes later to go into the break knotted up at one apiece. Virginia Tech came out swinging in the second half and notched another goal to pick up the win and avoid the upset.
 
Riley Karpinski tied the game in the 28th minute and Hannah Pachan earned the game-winning goal in the 66th minute.
 
Series History (0-1-0)
The Keydets have only squared off once since VMI's inception of women's soccer in 2003. The following year, the Hokies registered a 9-0 win over the Keydets in Blacksburg in the only ever matchup between the schools.
