Track and Field preps for final tune-up at App State meet

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI track and field teams are preparing for the final regular season meet of the 2026 outdoor season as the Keydets prep for the John Weaver Invitational hosted by App State University this weekend in Boone, North Carolina.
 
Competition begins Friday, April 24 and goes through Saturday, April 25 at the Randy Marion Track and Field Facility.
   
The Keydets are coming off an impressive performance last weekend at the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Sophomore Reagan Gilman once again broke her own school record in the 800 meter with a time of 2:07.67, beating her PR of 2:10.50 set the week before at the JMU Invitational.

"This is our last meet before SoCon, and the focus is simple: compete hard, execute, and build momentum. Our men have some strong opportunities this weekend, but the bigger goal is showing we are ready to perform when the championship arrives.
 
"This weekend is about building confidence and carrying momentum into SoCon. Our women have several good opportunities across the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws, and I want to see us compete with poise, energy and consistency."
