VMI continues homestand versus UNC Asheville

LEXINGTON, Va. – Facing a second consecutive opponent from the Big South Conference, the VMI women's soccer team will play for the first time at Patchin Field this season Sunday when the Keydets play host to UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: VMI 0, Winthrop 0
The Keydets (0-3-1) earned their first result of the season by tying Winthrop in a scoreless draw Thursday afternoon up on Drill Field #2. VMI came close to scoring on several occasions but neither team could find the back of the net.
 
All-Time Series vs. UNC Asheville (4-11-2)
Former colleagues in the Big South Conference, the Keydets and Bulldogs faced each other every season from 2003-14 before VMI split for the Southern Conference. Asheville opened with five straight wins before the Keydets rattled off three straight wins from 2008-10.
 
Of the past five matches, the Bulldogs have come out victorious in three while two have resulted in ties, including last year's 1-1 draw in Asheville. VMI last defeated Asheville on September 11, 2015, by a 3-1 score in a neutral site matchup played in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.  The schools did not play each other from 2019-2021.
 
About the Bulldogs (2-1-1)
UNC Asheville has come out strong to begin the 2025 season boasting two wins and a tie while falling by a close 1-0 score to Miami (Fla.) on its home turns in the season opener.
 
The Bulldogs rebounded with a 1-0 victory over SoCon foe Wofford before tying Jacksonville State at 1-1 apiece.  Asheville is coming off a dominant 9-0 victory over D-II opponent Mars Hill Wednesday night in Asheville.
 
Nao Kawasaki and Akari Kishida lead the team with two goals apiece on the year while seven others have one goal each through four matches. Kawasaki and Kishida scored both of their goals Wednesday night against Mars Hill.
 
Goalie Gracie Murray has played three complete matches (270:00 minutes) and has a 1-1-1 individual record to go with 14 saves and allowed just two goals. Alison Little has one full game under her belt and did not concede any goals to Mars Hill Wednesday night.
