VMI heads to Longwood to finish road swing

LEXINGTON, Va. – Playing three straight road games to open the season, the VMI women's soccer team completes its road swing Wednesday night at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
 
The opening kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Longwood Athletics Complex.

The Keydets (0-2) look to pick up their first victory of the season Wednesday night after falling in both contests this past weekend at Richmond and at Elon.
 
Riley Boucher and Taliyah Headman lead the team with three shots apiece through two matches while Barrett Callejo has two. All three of Boucher's attempts have required a save from the opposing keeper. Six others have taken one shot attempt thus far.
 
Series History (0-13-1)
Longtime rivals in the Big South Conference, VMI and Longwood squared off with frequency from 2003-14 before VMI rejoined the Southern Conference. The Lancers have won 13 games in the all-time series while VMI will look for its first ever victory against Longwood. The two schools battled to a 1-1 tie in 2007. In the most recent game held at VMI in 2023, the Lancers earned a 2-1 victory over the Keydets on Drill Field #2.
 
About Longwood (2-0)
The Lancers look to continue their hot streak to open the season after beginning the year with two wins over Alabama A&M and American over the weekend. Longwood defeated Alabama A&M by a 4-0 count before earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory over American Sunday night.
 
Sam Fischer was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week Monday after recording two goals in Longwood's pair of wins last week. Madison Fitzpatrick, Emma Jones, Meghan Piazza and Claire Schultz also registered one goal apiece to help the Lancers to a great start to the 2025 campaign.
 
Goalie Sara Curtis has allowed just one goal in two games while logging seven saves for a 0.5 goals-against average and .875 save percentage.
