Keydets to face Elon on the road Sunday night

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team looks to bounce back from Thursday's loss to Richmond when the Keydets face Elon University Sunday night in Elon, North Carolina.
 
The opening kick-off is set for a 7 p.m. start at Rudd Field.

The Keydets battled hard Thursday night as senior forward Riley Boucher led the team with three shot attempts for the night while junior Barrett Callejo had two. Five others logged one shot attempt apiece.
 
The Keydets put up quality shot attempts as eight of VMI's 10 shots required a save by the Richmond keeper. VMI freshman goalie Maren Ryberg played nearly 70 minutes before she was replaced and was credited with seven saves on the night.
 
About Elon (0-0-1)
The Phoenix were not far from where VMI was competing Thursday night in Richmond as Elon was just across town taking on VCU where they battled to a 1-1 tie with the Rams to open the season.
 
Isa Murdock found the back of the net in the 34th minute for Elon's first goal of the season. VCU leveled the score late in the second half, but Katie Bisgrove stood tall in goal down the stretch for the Phoenix with six saves in the second half alone.
 
Murdock led the team with two shots on the night while Ava Hellner and Jordan Green each had one to finish with four shots for the team during the contest. VCU totaled 18 shots during the game but only came away with one goal on the night when Vivian Vendt knotted the game at 1-1 in the second half to result in a draw.
