Track and Field opens competition at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A trio of VMI track and field athletes opened competition at the 2025 Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia Friday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The meet features Power 5 schools from all over the East coast and some of the top track and field programs in the country.

Junior Ben Hagerich came in 54th place overall in the men's 1500m run with a time of 4:00.84.

In the men's 100 meter, freshman Kevin Koumondji ran strong with a 63rd-place mark in 10.94 seconds.

On the women's side, freshman Naturale Faison competed in the 100 meter dash and finished 56th overall in 12.35 seconds.

Sophomore Kevin Shank is scheduled to compete in the men's 5000 meter at approximately 11:35 p.m.

The Keydets continue competition at the Virginia Challenge for the second day of action Saturday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville.
