VMI Women take fifth at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – Highlighted by two gold medal finishes by senior Eleyah Armstrong, the VMI women's track and field team shined Saturday to close the 2025 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

For the women, the Samford Bulldogs finished first with 163.5 points. The Wofford Terriers finished with 119.5 points for their fourth runner-up finish in five seasons. Furman was third with 115 points and Western Carolina finished fourth with 88 points.  The Keydets placed fifth overall with 70 points.

Samford won its record tenth straight women's title and its sixth straight men's title.
 
All-Conference Finishes
*Armstrong won the 60 meter dash for a third year in a row with a time of 7.42 seconds, the proceeded to win the gold in the 200 meter with a time of 24.33 seconds, shaving over a second off the her 2024 time for the event.
*Freshman Reagan Gilman earned All-SoCon honors by placing third in the 800 meter finals in 2:13.42, breaking her own school record time set yesterday in the prelims when she earned a fifth-place time of 2:14.82. Both marks broke the previous VMI school record held by Kelsey Newcomb set at 2:15.29 in 2013.
*Junior Shea Hart placed third in the 60m hurdles finals to earn All-SoCon recognition with a time of 8.65 seconds
*Freshman Naturale Faison earned All-SoCon in the 60m finals by placing third overall in 7.66 seconds for a new personal record

Excellent Finishes
*Faison came in sixth in the 200m finals in 24.80 seconds and junior SeMore Green arrived in eighth in 25.36 seconds
