Women’s T&F Shines at VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's track and field team earned excellent marks Saturday at the 2025 VMI Winter Classic hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

The event also marked Senior Day as VMI's 2025 senior class was recognized following the national anthem.

Several cadet-athletes led their groups to excellent finishes, including Gretal Shank, Reagan Gilman, Evelyn Anderson and Jillian Sisk earning the DMR team to a first-place finish in 12:34.68, the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Senior Eleyah Armstrong performed well in the long jump with a first-place finish at 5.61 meters, then followed up by logging a third-place finish in 24.66 seconds in the 200 meter.

Highlights from VMI Winter Classic
*Freshman Reagan Gilman led VMI in the 800 meter with a time of 2:17.75 - the fourth fastest mark in program history - just ahead of Gretal Shank's time of 2:19, the sixth fastest mark in school history. Natalia Dias also competed in 10th place in 2:30.79
*Diamond Baker came in fifth in the shot put at 11.63m
*E'yana Watson earned a 1.53m height in the high jump for sixth place
* Freshman Naturale Faison came in seventh in the 60m prelims in 7.79 before finishing fourth in the finals in 7.72 seconds
* Samantha Layton came in eighth in the 3000m in 11:44.92 ahead of Caroline Fiorillo's time of 12:53.70 for 10^th place
* Zoffia Gonzalez earned a time of 19:58.19 for eighth place in the 5000m
