LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Swimming & Diving treks up to Baltimore, Maryland, for a tri-meet to battle America East foe UMBC and Howard on Saturday at the UMBC Aquatic Complex.
Both Keydet squads fell short in their last outing against Davidson. However, the men achieved 23 podium finishes and seven first-place marks, while the women secured 14 top-three placements and three first-place finishes, along with one record-breaking time.
Freshman
Lacy Delzell has been crushing her freshman campaign, holding the team's top time in the 100 & 200 Back and 200 Free. Delzell has broken the 200 Free Rat record twice and helped the 200 Free Relay squad break the Rat record. Against Davidson, Delzell was one of three Keydets to earn gold, along with fellow swimmers
Noelle Tong and
Carissa Witte.
Sophomore
Stephen Russell continued his dominance against Davidson with wins in the 200 & 500 Free and a second-place finish in the 200 IM. Freshman
Ian Lutz has been lightning fast in his collegiate debut, holding the fastest time in the 100 Free and second-fastest in the 50 Free. Lutz has also played a key role in both 200 Free and Medley Relays, helping the Keydets earn first place a combined five times this season.
The UMBC men's team has collected two wins thus far and took home third place at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. The women are searching for their first win of the campaign.
For Howard, the men aim to build on their big win over American, while the women hope to come out on top for the first time this season.
