Keydets cap off America East Championships with broken records

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Women's Swimming & Diving had five records shattered on the final day of the 2026 America East Championships at Goodall Pool in the VMI Aquatic Center Saturday evening.

The Keydets finished the four-day meet with 159 points, the most in the America East era for VMI.

Avery Shuping shone in the 1,650 Free, breaking four records in one race. Shuping's 11th-place finish resulted in breaking the Rat and team records in the mile (17:26.03), and in the process, broke the 1,000 Free Rat and team records in her split time.

Making their way into the top 16 in the 100 Free were Noelle Tong and Mackenzie Byrne. This marks the first time VMI has had two women score in the same event in program history. Tong finished in 13th (51.99), and Byrne recorded 15th (52.89).

Shattering the 200 Fly team record was Emerson Cosner, who placed 12th in the B-Final (2:09.80).
