Track & Field opens with strong results at VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI track and field team opened the 2025 indoor season with school records and multiple personal records Saturday at the VMI Team Challenge held at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
Team Highlights
VMI's women showcased impressive results across the board, including multiple event wins and podium finishes. Performances in the sprints and middle distances were especially notable, with Naturale Faison, Eleyah Armstrong, and Olivia Hurd leading the charge. The team's depth and consistency position them well for the rest of the season.
 
Sprint Events
  • 60m Dash: Freshman Naturale Faison won the final with a blazing 7.72 seconds, improving on her preliminary time of 7.87. Sophomore Jennifer Koumondji placed fifth (8.00), and freshman Miracle Eric took eighth (8.53)
  • 200m Dash: Senior Eleyah Armstrong dominated with a first-place finish in 25.10 seconds
  • 400m Dash: Juniors SeMore Green (1:00.75) and Heaven Hall (1:02.86) secured second and third, respectively, in a competitive field
Middle Distance Hurdles
  • 60m Hurdles: Junior Shea Hart took the title in 9.10 seconds, with freshman Jeniya White placing second in 9.72
Relays
  • 4x400m Relay: The VMI 'A' team earned second place with a time of 4:12.75, followed by the 'B' team in third (4:19.20)
Jumps
  • High Jump: Sophomore Morgan Fraser led the way with a first-place jump of 1.60m, and freshman E'Yana Watson cleared 1.55m for second
  • Triple Jump: Senior Julie Freitas leaped 11.31m to secure second place
Throws
  • Shot Put: Sophomore Diamond Baker's throw of 11.56m earned her third place, while freshman Ruth Dickersheid placed seventh with 10.18m
  • Weight Throw: Baker continued her success with a fourth-place finish (12.04m), and Dickersheid came in fifth (10.72m)
