VMI travels to Furman for Sunday Contest

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team will face Furman University in its first Southern Conference road game of the season Sunday afternoon in Greenville, South Carolina.

Kickoff is set for a 2 p.m. start at Stone Stadium. The game will not be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Keydets opened SoCon play Thursday evening in a weather-delayed at home against UNCG, who took home a 5-1 win over VMI. VMI held a 1-0 through 72 minutes of play until the Spartans scored five goals over the final 18 minutes to earn the conference win.

VMI junior Riley Boucher scored early in the opening half against the Spartans on a penalty kick after teammate Cadee Hegarty was clipped from behind within the UNCG goalbox.

Boucher leads VMI with five goals on the year while sophomore Barrett Callejo ranks seconds with two. Caroline Marini, Isabella Bruzonic, Cameron Jones and Emma Rice have also tallied one goal apiece for the season.

About the Paladins (4-4-2)
Furman opened conference play Thursday night at Mercer and left Macon in a 1-1 tie with the Bears.

The Paladins opened the season with a 3-2 win over Charleston Southern before falling in four consecutive matches to South Carolina, Presbyterian, Davidson and Clemson. Furman rebounded nicely with three straight wins over Georgia Southern, UNC Asheville and USC Upstate before a 1-1 tie with Tennessee Tech last Sunday.

Jenny Jacobson leads the team with four goals while 10 other Paladins have single goals for the year. Valentina Mosquera leads the squad with three assists and Ellie Herrmann has contributed two helpers.

Addison Corn and Reese DeJong have split time in the goal box with Corn playing 310 minutes to 590 for DeJong. Corn has 16 saves on the year (1.74 GAA) to 26 for DeJong (1.83 GAA). Corn is 1-2-0 on the year while DeJong holds a 3-2-2 mark.
