Women’s Soccer kicks off 2024 season at home vs. Davidson

LEXINGTON, Va. – Ready for game action after two weeks of fall camp, the VMI women's soccer team kicks off the 2024 season at home versus Davidson on Thursday in Lexington.

Kickoff is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Patchin Field.

The Keydets return all their top scorers from last season including Riley Boucher (4), Sedona Dancu (3) and Barrett Callejo, Caroline Marini and Eva Torres all with one a piece. Dancu, Callejo and senior Delilah Martindale all return with the most assists from a year ago with two each.

The goalie position is up for grabs as Whitney Tracy, Brookelynn Webster and Leslie Surita-Perez are all vying for the starting role.

Series History (0-0-2)
Thursday's match will be the first time the two squads have faced off in Lexington as both previous contests were held in Davidson, North Carolina. The schools went scoreless in the first ever matchup in 2019 before the teams settled for a 1-1 tie in Davidson during the 2020-21 CoVid season when the game was played during the spring on February 28, 2021.

About the Wildcats
Thursday's match also marks the season opener for Davidson College as the Wildcats look to improve upon their 4-11-2 record from a year ago.

Junior Savannah Pruitt returns with three goals from 2023 while senior Aleia Gisolfi earned two scores. Sophomore Annaliese Mann and junior SJ Pak also return having scored one goal a piece from last season.

Goalie Emily Smith returns for her senior year after registering over 1500 minutes in the net a year ago to go with a 1.35 goals-against average and 67 saves. She earned four individual wins in 2023, all shutout victories for the Wildcats.
