Wilson hires Sebastian, restructures coaching staff

LEXINGTON, Va. – Second year VMI head basketball coach Andrew Wilson announced Tuesday the hiring of Connor Sebastian as the program's newly created position of Video and Analytics Coordinator in addition to restructuring his coaching staff's titles and responsibilities.

Sebastian comes to VMI by way of Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida, where he served as an assistant men's basketball coach for two years. On top of player development, he assisted coaches with daily practices, in-game strategizing and film breakdown.

Since 2021, Sebastian also served as a personal basketball trainer at the Orlando Basketball Academy in Windermere, Florida. He specialized in offensive player development through individual and group training sessions with players ranging from elementary school through high school.

"We are very excited to welcome Connor to our program," said VMI head coach Andrew Wilson. "He will be a great fit and is very eager for the opportunity ahead. He comes from one of the most successful high school programs in the state of Florida and came highly recommended. Connor will assist in all areas of our program and be a tremendous asset to the entire coaching staff."

Coach Wilson also made the following changes to the titles of his coaching staff:

Dave Davis – Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator
Keith Chesley – Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator
Austin Kenon – Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Luke Colwell – Assistant Coach/Director of Operations
Ryan King – will remain as Director of Player Development

Already the associate head coach, Davis will focus on the team's offensive efforts while assistant coach Keith Chesley will focus on the defensive strategy.

Assistant coach Austin Kenon '11 adds on the responsibility to serve as the program's recruiting coordinator, while director of basketball operations Luke Colwell has been elevated to an assistant coach on top of his normal operations duties.

Ryan King will remain as the program's Director of Player Development.

As of July 1, new NCAA rules allow for Division 1 programs to have as many as five assistant coaches on the court, but only three assistants and the head coach are allowed on the road to recruit.

"We are very fortunate to have continuity and a great staff to support every aspect of our program as we look to rise in the Southern Conference," Wilson said. "We are very pleased with the new NCAA rules that allow our program to best develop our players and maximize their potential. We have a great opportunity this summer with our upcoming foreign trip to The Bahamas and will hit the ground running in the fall."
