Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

VMI falls to Chattanooga in season finale

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Trailing 42-33 at the half, the VMI basketball team rallied to come within one point of host Chattanooga twice in the second half but could not quite complete the comeback and the Mocs held on for an 86-79 win over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at McKenzie Arena.

A Kaden Stuckey And-1 pulled the Keydets (6-25, 1-17) within one point at 53-52 with 14:35 to play and a TJ Johnson layup at the 12:30 mark again put the Keydets one possession away from grabbing the lead, but the Mocs responded with baskets on the other end to keep VMI at bay.

The Mocs (13-18, 7-11) twice built their lead back up to nine in the final 10 minutes and ultimately led by 12 with under a minute to play – their largest lead of the game - en route to the league victory.

VMI was limited to two players coming off the bench and produced 15 points, but a deep Chattanooga bench provided 53 points for the Mocs on the other end including 33 from guard Jordan Frison.

Starter Cal Liston earned a career-high 21 points in the loss as he scored eight baskets – including two treys – and nearly registered his first career double-double with nine rebounds on the day. Johnson also finished with 21 points after hitting six threes on the afternoon.

Kaden Stuckey matched his career high with 13 points on the day by going 4-5 from the field and 5-8 from the charity stripe, while Linus Holmstrom (12) and Tan Yildizoglu (10) also tallied double digits.
