Keydets to finish regular season at UNCG Sunday

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking to finish the 2023 regular season on a strong note, the VMI women's soccer team will face UNCG Sunday at 2 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina.
 
With the postseason beginning next week, VMI will learn its Southern Conference Tournament opponent by Sunday evening and will kick off the opening round Tuesday on the road at a time to be determined.
 
VMI (2-15, 1-7) currently stands as the No. 9 seed while the Spartans are presently in the No. 7 spot with a 6-9-2 record and 3-4-1 league mark.

About the Spartans (6-9-2, 3-4-1)
UNCG has earned wins this season over Army West Point, Elon and Coastal Carolina in addition to SoCon wins over The Citadel, Furman and most recently a 2-1 win over Chattanooga this past Sunday at home. They also have ties with Charlotte and Mercer on the year.
 
The Spartans are led by Caroline Woods, who has tallied five goals on the year to go with an assist for a team-high 11 points. Ava Kiss, Mel Herrera and Taylor Mentzer also lead the squad with a pair of goals credited to each. Four Spartans are tied with the team lead in assists with two on the season.
 
Goalie Emma Malone has played and started all 16 matches thus far, allowing 20 goals to go with 48 saves for a 1.33 goals-against average. She also has two shutouts to her credit in 2023.
