Keydets Conclude VMI Invitational with Strong Marks

LEXINGTON, Va. - The VMI track and field teams continued to show improvement and strong effort with several broken personal records Saturday to conclude the VMI Invitational at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

D. Alex Fiorillo placed first in the 3000m run with a personal-best time of 8:43.13, while Andrew Hirneisen came in 10^th with a lifetime-best mark of 9:06.59.

Senior Trent Whittaker arrived in third place in the 800 meter with a time of 1:53.45, while sprinter Jeremiah Wilks competed unattached in the 200 meter in third place in 22.13 seconds.

Nick Brown registered a fourth-place personal record time of 49.29 seconds in the 400 meter just ahead of Richard Edwards, who came in 10^th place overall in 49.75 seconds in the event.

"We had another day of personal bests starting with Nick Brown and Rich Edwards going under 50 seconds in the 400m with 6 weeks until the Southern Conference Championship. Alex Fiorillo winning and earning a personal-best time in the 3k after running the 800m was impressive.

"We had another day of great performances on both the men's and women's teams. Personal bests and finishing in the top 8 are indications of our training progression. More importantly, we are beginning to learn what it takes to be successful as one team."
