Women's Soccer Kicks off 2022 Season at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The VMI women's soccer team opens the 2022 regular season at Robert Morris University Thursday afternoon with a 2 p.m. kickoff at North Athletic Complex.

VMI returns leading scorer and 2021 SoCon All-Freshman honoree Riley Flanagan (eight goals) as well as second leading scorer Isabella Bruzonic, who tallied three on the season. Hannah White and Lauren Fyfe – both with one goal apiece a year ago - also return as offensive leaders as White took 18 shot attempts for the year and Fyfe totaled 17.

On the other end, junior goalie Jillian Hall played in all but one match during the 2021 season and logged 1635 minutes in the goalie box. She earned 142 saves for the season, which claimed the No. 1 spot in the record book for most saves in a single season, and also led the Southern Conference.

LAST TIME ON THE PITCH: The Keydets played an exhibition match against Radford last week at home, falling by a closely contested 1-0 score at Patchin Field. VMI came close to scoring on several opportunities but could not find the back of the net.

THE COLONIALS: The Colonials return their top six offensive players from a year ago from a team that finished with a 6-10-3 overall record and 2-6-3 mark in the Horizon League. Haleigh Finale led the team with six goals and six assists, while Kaoru Hayashi ranked second with three goals and four assists. Kayla Veloso-Lima finished the year with three goals and an assist while Gabriella Lecuona, Chelsea Kingston and Emily Rocco all ended up with two goals for the season.

Goalie Isabella Bohlen returns after having started 13 matches a year ago and tallied 50 saves for a 1.48 goals-against average over 1156 total minutes.

KEYDETS vs. COLONIALS: Thursday's matchup is the first time VMI and Robert Morris have faced off on the soccer pitch.
