Track and Field Teams Post Strong Results at Mason Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The VMI women's track and field team posted excellent marks Saturday at the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Freshman Eleyah Armstrong highlighted the day for the women by placing eighth overall in the long jump competition with a distance of 5.30 meters. Yvonnia Perrello also performed well in the event placing 26th at 4.76 meters. Perrello also logged a 27th-place mark of 10.47 meters in the triple jump.

Jenna Kirkland came in 23rd overall in the discus at 33.91 meters. She also registered 26th place in the shot put at 10.54 meters. Senior Ellie Miller performed well in the javelin with a 24th-place throw of 30.49 meters and also came in 24th in the shot put at 10.75 meters. Alexis Rocker finished 25th overall in the hammer throw at 39.83 meters.

Freshman Gretal Shank came in 30th overall in the 800 meter in 2:21.07, and Naomi Hahn finished 43rd overall in 2:26.45.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Natalie Clark arrived in 48th place in 1:07.83.

The Keydets return to action next Saturday, April 16, at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott:
"Our women's team is young but learning and are working to be ready for the Conference championships. We had good marks from the leading women's finisher, Eleyah Armstrong, in the long jump followed by Ellie Miller in the javelin and Gretal Shank in the 800m."
