Jenkins Shines at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After months of training and preparation, senior distance runner Gavin Jenkins earned an excellent performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night at the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia.

Jenkins came in 13th place overall in 8:49.92, which will place him high on the NCAA East Regional performance list and currently leads the Southern Conference best time for the event with the SoCon Outdoor Championships just a week away.

Senior thrower Solomon Ghosh also earned a solid mark in the discus throw as he placed 14th overall with a distance of 47.42 meters, just two meters off his career best.

Action for the Keydets resumes Saturday afternoon when junior Trent Whittaker competes in Heat 5 of the 800 meter at 3:20 p.m.

VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott:
"Gavin took advantage of this opportunity to race against some of the top runners in the Southern Conference, Division 1 collegiate ranks and international runners.  Gavin is doing a great job and putting in the work to finish strong his senior year as a Keydet."
