Track and Field Teams Earn Stellar Marks at JMU Invite

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The VMI track and field teams earned excellent marks Saturday at the James Madison Invitational held at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to prep for the SoCon Outdoor Championships in two weeks.
 
Freshman Eleyah Armstrong came in first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.01 seconds. She later competed in the 200 meter and finished eighth overall in 25.30 seconds.
 
Sophomore Naomi Hahn came in third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:48.74 just ahead of Gretal Shank's fifth-place time of 12:03.24.
 
Emily Wells came in fifth in the 5000-meter in 21:28.16, and senior Ellie Miller placed sixth in the javelin at 35.48 meters. Miller also competed in the shot put and came in sixth overall at 11.56 meters ahead of Jenna Kirkland's eighth-place distance of 10.82 meters. Alexis Rocker placed 10th at 9.66 meters.
 
Marissa Linkous finished ninth in the pole at a height of 3.06 meters, and sophomore Suzanna Stoneburner placed 10th at 2.91 meters.
 
In the discus throw, Kirkland placed 11th overall at 31.82 meters.
 
Julie Freitas placed 11th overall in the triple jump at 10.64 meters ahead of Yvonnia Perrello's mark of 9.70 meters for 14th place.
 
Rocker arrived in 11th place in the hammer throw at 39.81 meters while Kirkland was right behind in 12th place at 39.62 meters.
 
Rachael Dickenson came in 13th place in 5:18.00 in the 1500 meter, and Natalie Clark finished 14th overall in the 400 meter in 1:07.52.
 
The Keydets return to action next weekend at the Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

I am very proud of the results this weekend.
