LEXINGTON, Va. – Highlighted by junior distance runner Trent Whittaker's school record and CPTF record in the 1000 meter, the VMI men's track and field team set several personal bests on Day 1 of the VMI Winter Classic Friday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott:
"Great performances for both teams as we continue to get a little better each week for the SoCon Championships.

"Jordin Poindexter continues his senior campaign for another championship qualifying into the finals Saturday in the 60m dash with a leading time of 6.78. Johnnie Walker had a great race in the 400m finishing with a time of 48.84, putting him at the top of the Southern Conference performance list.

"Tomorrow the meet will start at 10 a.m. with the men's mile and men's shot put with a brief break after the women's mile to honor our senior members of our track and field family. We hope to see you cheering the loudest supporting our Keydets one more time before the championships."
