Keydets Close Regular Season on Road at Mercer, The Citadel

LEXINGTON, Va. – Playing their final two games of the regular season on the road, the VMI women's soccer team looks to finish strong with away contests slated at Mercer Friday night at 7 p.m.  in Macon, Georgia, and at The Citadel Sunday at 2 p.m. in Charleston, South Carolina.

THE MERCER BEARS (8-3-5, 3-1-3)
The Bears are presently second in the SoCon standings with one weekend to play. Mercer enters Friday night's match having won three of the last four Southern Conference games, including wins over The Citadel, Furman, Western Carolina and a tie with Wofford. In other league action, Mercer has registered ties with both ETSU and Samford.
 
Kendall Cook, Nicole Icen and Jada Moorman all have six goals on the season to lead the squad while Sydney Farr and Lana Whitfield both have a pair. Cook also leads the team with 51 shot attempts and 33 on frame. Goalie Lindsay Bell has played all but 90 minutes in the box for the Bears and owns an 8-4-5 individual record with 88 saves thus far.

THE CITADEL BULLDOGS (8-7, 3-4)
The Bulldogs have found mixed results during conference play the past few weeks, claiming wins over Furman and Wofford before falling to Western Carolina and Mercer this past weekend. The Citadel opened league action with a win over Samford before falling in consecutive matches to Chattanooga and ETSU.
 
Suzuka Yosue leads the team with five goals on the season while Ashley Franks has four and Jimena Risoto, Maggie Melogy and Kristi Jones all have three scores. Suzuka is also the key distributor with nine assists for a team-best 18 points on the year.
 
The Citadel has split time among four goalkeepers led by Brie Sikes, who has the most time with 683 minutes and logged a 1.71 goals-against average to go with 35 saves. She owns a 4-4-0 individual mark.
 
The Bulldogs take on UNCG Friday at 3 p.m. before taking on the Keydets Sunday at 2 p.m. at WLI Field.

KEYDETS vs. BEARS
The Keydets are 1-7-1 all-time against Mercer, including a 2-2 tie with the Keydets on Patchin Field in 2021.
 
KEYDETS vs. BULLDOGS
The Citadel claimed its eighth all-time series win last year over the Keydets after escaping with a 4-1 victory over VMI during the 2021 season.
