VMI Completes Keydet Invitational with Top Marks

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking for a strong finish to the 2022 Keydet Invitational, the VMI track and field teams accomplished the task with several first-place finishes and personal bests Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
Ingrid Joseph highlighted the day for the women's team with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.22 seconds. Teammate Nia Vaughan also competed in the event and placed 12th in 27.83 seconds.
 
Senior Ahliyah Williams placed second overall in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:20.54.
 
"We have five weeks left to teach our team they are capable to compete as champions," said VMI Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Zack Scott. "This weekend, we had some great performances from Rats to first classmen that included personal best performances in almost every event group from field events, sprints and distance. I am pleased with the progression as we grow as a team and develop trust in the new process.
 
"I am excited to see the results from our indoor season when we line up or step up when our name is called to compete at the SoCon Championships."
 
The 4x400 relay team consisting of Joseph, Marissa Linkous, Gretal Shank and Williams placed third overall with a time of 4:08.04. The VMI B team consisting of Nia Vaughan, Yvonnia Perrello, Alyssa Ingerson and Natalie Clark placed ninth overall in 4:53.53.
 
In the 800 meter, Ingerson came in fifth overall in 2:50.73. In other running events, senior Rachael Dickenson arrived in 13th overall in the mile run in 5:37.80 and Emily Wells earned a 14th-place time of 11:55.09 in the 3000 meter.
 
Eleyah Armstrong highlighted the field events for the women by placing sixth overall with a distance of 5.34 meters in the long jump.
 
Senior Ellie Miller placed seventh overall in the shot put at 11.13 meters while Jenna Kirkland logged a distance of 9.42 meters for 14th place. Perrello also competed in the event and earned a mark of 9.05 meters for 16th place.
 
The Keydets return to action next weekend hosting the VMI Winter Relays slated for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, at the CPTF.
