Women's Soccer Opens SoCon Play at Western Carolina

LEXINGTON, Va. - The VMI women's soccer team will travel to Western Carolina for its first Southern Conference matchup of the season Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Keydets (1-0-1, 0-0) look to continue their strong defense after a draw against Davidson College last Sunday. Senior Sidney Swoope had six saves on the day and the defensive backline continually made stops to keep the Davidson attack at bay.

Junior Whitney Edwards-Roberson scored a goal off an assist from Sarah Anschutz in the second half against Davidson.

Edwards-Roberson, Kiley Cropper, and Maggie Beckman each have two goals on the season. The Keydets have shots contributed by Natalie Carpenter, Morgan Anderson, Sam Fee, and Melanie Rodriguez.

About the Catamounts (1-2, 0-0 SoCon)
Western Carolina is coming off a 1-0 loss to Liberty last Thursday. The Catamounts had an earlier loss to Davidson, after a regular season opener win against Charlotte in overtime.

Sophomore Melody Mezzjna had a career-high eight saves against Liberty. The Catamounts are led in shots by Regan Ward, with Maryanne Kilgore, Bella Pighini, and Aliyah Milicia contributing.
