BALTIMORE, Md. – The VMI men's and women's swimming and diving teams swam against America East powerhouse UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) Saturday, falling to the Retrievers 228-70 in men's competition and 227-70 in women's action.
Junior Jack Sheehan won the men's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.90 and was third in the 200 breast in 2:18.09. Bridger Thurston took second in both the 1 meter (218.78) and 3 meter (192.55) diving events and Evan Wilson had personal bests in both competitions. Chino Vera was third in the 100 free in 49.12 and fourth in the 50 free in 22.25. Connor Doyle placed fourth in the 100 back (55.70) and fifth in the 500 free (5:03.63). Sam Chopper placed third in the 1000 free in 10:15. 99 and Conner Jorgensen was fourth in the 200 back. Andrew Mills took fourth in the 100 fly, Ethan Griffith placed fourth in the 400 IM and Collin Marks was fifth in the 200 free.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Doyle, Sheehan, Tyler Blackwell and Vera finished fourth in 1:40.31 and the team of Sheehan, Dalton Cosner, Mike Tulupov and Vera took third in 1:29.93.
London Yerasimides won the women's 3 meter dive with a personal best score of 215.93 and was second in the 1 meter (184.45). The Keydet women's divers outscored the Retrievers 23-13. Â
Rachel Greathouse broke a freshmen record for the second-straight week, snapping the 200 free mark in 1:58.82 to place second. She also was second in the 500 free in 5:22.05 and third in the 200 fly in 2:17.74. Anne Bowles was second in the 100 breast (1:09.21) and fifth in the 200 breast in 2:44.28. Courtney Novotny finished the 100 free in 57.52 to take third and 1:05.50 in the 100 fly to finish fifth. Sarah Liebenow was fourth in the 1000 free (12:09.00) and fifth in the 400 IM (5:14.74). Ruki Sarkari placed fifth in both the 100 and 200 back and Kate Taylor was fifth in the 50 free. The 200 free relay team of Taylor, Carter Wasser, Isabella DeCosta and Novotny was fourth in 1:49.68 and Sarkari, Bowles, DeCosta and Taylor took fifth in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.23.
The Keydets will return to Baltimore for their next competition at the Loyola Invitational Dec. 3-4.
