Keydets Close Home Slate vs. Western Carolina, ETSU

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking to finish the 2021 regular season strong, the VMI women's soccer team will face Western Carolina and ETSU at home this weekend.
 
The Keydets (3-13-1, 0-6-1) take on the Catamounts Friday at 4 p.m. then turn around to face the ETSU Bucs Sunday at 2 p.m. at Patchin Field.  A live ESPN+ broadcast and live stats will be provided for both matches.

About the Catamounts (9-6-1, 4-3-0)
Western Carolina will be hungry for victories this weekend in order to lock up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference tournament.  The Catamounts are coming off a win Sunday against Chattanooga after dropping their previous two league matches to ETSU and Samford.
 
WCU has conference wins over The Citadel, Furman and Wofford and just one other league loss at the hands of Mercer. This season, the Catamounts also have wins over UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, Davidson, UT-Martin and Ohio.
 
Graduate transfer Valentine Pursey leads the NCAA in game-winning goals this season with six on the year as she leads the team with eight goals overall, tied with VMI's Riley Flanagan for second overall in the conference.
 
Naya Marcil and Kirsten Hahn rank second on the team with three goals apiece. Pursey leads the team with 45 shot attempts for the season while Hahn is second with 26 for the year.
 
Melody Mezzina has seen the most time in the goalbox for WCU with nearly 900 minutes and owns a 6-3-1 individual mark, including five shutouts. She has allowed just six goals and has 32 saves to her credit and a .842 save percentage.
 
 
About the Bucs (5-5-3, 2-4-1)
ETSU has earned league wins over Western Carolina and Wofford this season but dropped two straight this past weekend in matches against Chattanooga (1-0) and Samford (2-0).
 
Kyra Ranvek leads the team with two goals this season while six others have notched one goal apiece. Katie Philips and Nele Bauer lead with team in shot attempts with 23 and 19, respectively, for the season.
 
In the goalbox, Shu Ohba has played every minute this season and allowed 11 goals for a .80 goals-against average. She also has 62 saves to her credit and six shutouts.
