Warren Paces Track and Field on Day One at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lee Warren finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and Kerisha Goode was eighth in the 100-meter dash, leading VMI track and field's efforts Friday at the Charlotte 49er Invite in Charlotte, N.C.

Warren had the top finish of the day, timing in at 14.73 seconds to place sixth in the 110-hurdles. It was the third-fastest time of his collegiate career in the event. Goode, meanwhile, placed eighth in the 100 in 11.94 seconds.

The other top-10 finish of the night for the Keydets came in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Kyle Sabourin finished ninth in 9:57.68. James Granderson was 12th in the long jump (6.87 M/22'6 1/2") and Desmond-Weinberg Jones was 14th in the 400 hurdles (55.17 seconds).

Finally, Ariana Ruffin finished 24th in the women's 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 58.49 seconds. That was the fastest time by a Keydet in an outdoor 400 since 2015.

"We had a quality opening day of our outdoor season," said VMI head coach Darrin Webb. "Lee Warren and Kerisha Goode continued their success from indoors, while other athletes took steps forward against top-notch competition. We look forward to more quality competition Saturday."

VMI track and field resumes action at the 49er Invite at 10 a.m. Saturday.
