LEXINGTON, Va. - One of the top competitors in the history of the VMI women's program closed out her home career with a bang Saturday, as Heather Magill set a new 3-meter diving school record for the second consecutive day to help the Keydets split a tri-meet with Washington & Lee and Ferrum at Clark King Pool in Lexington.
Magill, competing in her final meet at home and diving unopposed on both the 1 and 3-meter boards, posted a 3-meter score of 285.60 to just edge the 284.45 she put up Friday. In addition, her 1-meter effort of 261.40 moved her into fifth on the CCSA's ranking list entering the weekend.
The Keydets (3-5) would wind up winning the meet against Ferrum 141-78, but would drop a 163-66 decision to Washington & Lee. Washington & lee also defeated Ferrum 181-44.
Magill was joined in the win column by freshm3n McKenzie Raber and Natalie Rivas. Raber won the 1000 free with a time of 11:16.56, and also finished second in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:32.59, while Rivas won the 50 free in 25.45.
In addition, Sophia DelBondio was the runner-up in the 100 free (57.06) and Gabbie Galvez was the second-place finisher in the 100 fly (1:03.46).
VMI swimming and diving is idle until the CCSA Championships, which begin Feb. 18 in Athens, Ga.
