CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Western Carolina Catamounts scored two second-half goals to pull away and post a 3-0 win over the VMI Keydets in Southern Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon in Cullowhee, N.C. 

After WCU (7-6-4, 4-3-1 SoCon) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute, the VMI (3-12-1, 2-5 SoCon) defense held until the 52nd minute. Christina White found Chandler Arrowood for a score and a 2-0 lead for the home team. Kelly Pannell added on in the final minute to account for the final margin. 

Emily Marbury made eight saves to pace VMI in the setback, while none of the three Western Carolina goalies were forced to make a save. 

The home team struck early on, scoring at 14:53 when Markie Studnicky tallied on a 1 vs. 1 from 10 yards out. Madison Lee picked up an assist on the play, and that was the only goal of the first half. Marbury stopped four shots over the remainder of the period to keep the Keydets within one. 

WCU added on in the 52nd minute, when Arrowood scored from the left side of the box into the top right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead. Marbury made four additional saves and three WCU shots hit the frame over the remainder of the contest, but VMI could not muster a rally and Pannell tacked on an insurance goal in the waning moments to account for the final margin. 

In the setback, the Catamounts held a 21-1 edge in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. 

VMI women's soccer will return to action Friday, as the Keydets play host to Wofford at 4 p.m. The game will be recognized as a Shut Out Cancer game and donations will be encouraged via online methods to the American Cancer Society or the Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, the latter in recognition of VMI goalie Kirsten Hancock.
