LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Keydet women's swimming and diving team was back in action Saturday, competing in its first action since November and the team split a tri-meet with Washington & Lee and Ferrum at W&L's home pool in Lexington. The Keydets triumphed over FC 128-68, but fell to the hosts 133-64. The win over Ferrum gave VMI its first three-win season in program history.
VMI (3-6-1) posted a pair of top-four finishes at the tri-meet, with Ally Van Valen finishing fourth in the 200 free (2:14.59) and Sierra Sell doing so in the 1000 free at 12:28.79.
A quartet of fifth-place finishes were also on the docket, including Cecilya Lundy's result in the 50 free at 27.21, Gabby Galvez touching the wall in 59.49 in the 100 free, Katheryne Austin finishing fifth in the 100 breast (1:17.20) and Mackenzie Perkins doing so in the 100 back (1:06.20).
The Keydets also posted four victories in races that involved swimmers from other races logging exhibition times. Perkins in the 200 back (2:24.36), Galvez in the 100 fly (1:05.61), Mia Cunicelli in the 200 breast and the 400 free relay of Elise Reed, Molly Andoe, Yana Conrad and Galvez (4:10.82) accomplished that feat.
VMI women's swimming and diving will return to action Feb. 8, taking part in the two-day Virginia Tech Invitational in Christiansburg, Va.
