Lacrosse Heads to League-Leading Marist on Saturday

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Gearing up for its final game in the month of March, the Virginia Military Institute men's lacrosse team faces a tough challenge Saturday as the Keydets head to Marist College, which is currently atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.

Game time is slated for noon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Fans unable to make it to Poughkeepsie can follow the action through a live stats link as well as a live video stream, which requires a subscription. There will also be occasional tweets through the team's Twitter account, @VMILacrosse.

Weather.com Report
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-50s for Saturday's game, with mostly sunny clouds. Saturday might be windy, with wind speeds in the double digits. There is a zero percent chance of precipitation, according to Weather.com early Friday morning.

The Series
Saturday's game will be the 20th meeting all-time between VMI and Marist on the men's lacrosse field. The series has been even, with Marist holding a 10-9 advantage.

The teams first met in 1992 in a thrilling 11-10 overtime win for VMI in Lexington. The Red Foxes won the next two games before the Keydets reeled off six consecutive victories, the longest run of wins in the series.

This weekend, the Keydets will look to halt a four-game winning streak for Marist. VMI has not bested Marist since the 2008 meeting and will be aiming for its first win in Poughkeepsie since a double overtime tilt in 2005.

When Last They Met
Last season, the Keydets jumped out to a 7-4 lead by the halftime break, but an eleven-goal second half launched the Red Foxes past VMI 15-11.

Two Keydets, Drew Leonard and Keith Long, each logged hat tricks, while Leonard and Russell East finished with four points, the former with three goals and an assist and the latter with two goals and two dishes. Current junior Bernie Mowbray capped his afternoon against the Red Foxes with a pair of markers.

Between the pipes, senior Matt Lindemann made 11 saves during his 60 minutes of play. The 6-5 keeper collected one groundball, helping VMI lead the game with 34 while Marist finished with 27.
