Van Valen Sets Multiple Records in Loss

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ally Van Valen set three freshman school records, one of which was also a varsity mark, to lead the way for VMI women's swimming and diving against Howard Saturday in Washington, D.C. The Keydets fell 156-93 to drop to 0-9 on the season.

Van Valen was the winner in the 500 free, clocking in at 5:42 even to take the title. The time was both a freshman and varsity record for the first-year Keydet, and made it five varsity marks to fall to the VMI squad so far this season.

The Empire State native also delivered freshman records in the 1000 free (12:08.47, some 20 seconds better than the previous mark) and 1650 free (20:17.47) on Saturday afternoon against the Bison.

Heather Magill was another Keydet winner on Saturday, as Magill took victory in the 1-meter diving event. Her total of 253.60 broke her own school record, set last year as a true freshman.

The Keydets were also victorious in the 200 free relay, as Elise Reed, Emy Farsakian, Amanda Berrios and Mackenzie Perkins teamed up to touch the wall at 1:49.93, and in the 200 IM, where Justina Dunne broke her own school record by posting a 2:20.52 mark.

VMI women's swimming and diving is back in the pool Tuesday, when the Keydets take on Hollins at Clark King Pool. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
