Cunicelli and Doss Pace Women's S&D at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Three podium finishes, including individual efforts by freshmen Meghan Doss and Mia Cunicelli, were the top results for VMI women's swimming and diving Friday, as the team competed on the first day of a two-day meet hosted by Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md.

The meet consists of two days of individual dual competitions, with the scores from the first day not carrying over to the second. VMI dropped all three duals on Friday, losing 117-43 to Manhattan, 134-42 to the Mount and 118-49 to Saint Peter's.

Cunicelli had the top overall finish for the Keydets, coming home second in the 100-meter breaststroke, on the strength of her 1:24.64 time. Doss, meanwhile, was third in the 50-meter freestyle (30.54), a race that teammates Veronica Lentsch and Hannah Donovan placed fifth and seventh in, respectively. That same trio returned for the 100-meter freestyle, with Donovan leading the way in fourth (1:10.18), Doss finishing fifth and Lentsch coming home sixth.

Those three freestylers would team with senior Chelsea Nugent to earn VMI's final podium finish of the day, a third-place in the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:02.07).

VMI women's swimming and diving is back in action Saturday, taking part in day two of the meet at Mount St. Mary's. Action gets underway at noon in Emmitsburg, Md.
