Women's Soccer Falls at UNC Asheville, 4-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Robyn Busha scored twice and added two assists as UNC Asheville defeated VMI, 4-0 in Big South Conference women's soccer action at Greenwood Field Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs won their second straight match to improve their record to 5-4-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the league. VMI fell to 4-9-0 and 0-6 in the BSC.

The Keydets held the Bulldogs in check following an early goal, as Busha's goal just 61 seconds in gave UNCA the early lead. However, just ten minutes after halftime, the Bulldogs exploded for three goals in a 20-minute span to provide the final margin.

Busha opened the scoring in the first minute as she took a pass from freshman Lauren Turnburke and scored on a 10-yard shot.

It stayed 1-0 the rest of the half as VMI controlled play during some stretches. The Bulldogs outshot the Keydets 7-2 in the opening half.

In the second half, VMI thought it had tied the game when Erin Squires headed a ball into the back of the net off a free kick in the 53rd minutes. However, the goal was disallowed due to an off-sides call.

Asheville countered and got its second goal when senior midfielder Lauren Wingo tapped in an Ashleigh Carter pass to push the lead to 2-0 at 54:34. It was Wingo's first career goal, and also saw Busha credited for an assist.

Junior Joy Haynes pushed the lead to 3-0 scoring on a pass from Busha at 62:41. Busha finished the scoring on a 15-yard shot off a pass from Mary Ashley McCullough in the 75th minute.

Asheville goalkeeper Veronica Lazar pitched her fourth shutout of the year as she stopped two VMI shots. Keydet keeper Jessica Rheinlander was credited with six saves while playing 80 minutes before being relieved by Kathleen Underwood.

VMI returns to action on Wednesday evening, as the Keydets travel to Farmville to tangle with in-state rival Longwood at 7 p.m.
