Women's Soccer Falls to Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State used four goals by four different players to defeat VMI Thursday evening 4-0 in women's soccer action at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Appalachian (5-4) took an early 1-0 advantage, when Courtney O'Brien found the back of the net after a corner kick by Whitney Southard in the 4th minute.

VMI (0-7) contained the Mountaineers for the rest of the half, however, just seven minutes into the second period, Jennifer Rudy gave Appalachian a 2-0 lead on an assist from O'Brien.

The Mountaineers tacked on a pair of goals in the remaining minutes, as Southard scored in the 57th minute and Megan Keever converted in the 89th minute to conclude the scoring.

VMI keeper Jessica Rheinlander piled up nine saves, while Breland Meany and Tara Keith combined for the shutout for Appalachian.

VMI returns to action Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Conway, S.C. for a Big South Conference match-up against Coastal Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Field.
