Cross Country Wraps Up Season at NCAA Southeast Regional

GREENVILLE, N.C.- Led by sophomore Anthony Harris, the VMI cross country team wrapped up their season with a 20th place finish at the 2004 Southeast Cross Country Regional, hosted by East Carolina University at Lake Kristi in Greenville, N.C.

Harris' time of 32:28 over the 10k course paced the Keydets, who defeated nine other teams in the meet. Harris placed 89th overall, followed by Edwin Lugo (32:46, 105th place), Matt Bierlein (32:52, 110th place), Donnie Mikels (33:17, 129th place) and Shawn Hogan (33:59, 152nd place)

Other Keydet finishers in the race included Nicholas Mazzenga (34:15, 163rd place) and Graham Forbes (34:35, 171st place).

VMI scored wins over Big South rivals Coastal Carolina (26th place) and Winthrop (27th place), along with placing ahead of Southern Conference schools UNC Greensboro (23rd place), Western Carolina (24th place), Elon (28th place) and Davidson (29th place).

N.C. State took home the team title, edging out William & Mary by 18 points, 81-99. Individual honors went to Josh McDougal of Liberty, who finished with a time of 30:06.

On the women's side, Carol Henry of UNC's time of 19:57 led the Tarheels to a 3rd place finish behind Duke and N.C. State. No VMI women ran in the race.
